SUMMARY:Optimizing Children's Growth and Development Through Outdoor Play
DESCRIPTION:Outdoor play serves as a unique role in a young child’s overall development. It’s not just about having fun in the fresh air; it’s an essential aspect of early childhood education that nurtures physical\, cognitive\, social\, and emotional growth. This training is designed to help educators recognize the profound benefits of outdoor play and effectively integrate it into their teaching practices. Purposeful interactions during outdoor play enhance the level of supervision\, without feeling like supervision to the children\, and makes outdoor exploration less likely to be unsafe. \nTrainer: Cheryl Joseph\, Professor\, Oakton Community College \nAudience: All Providers \n2 Training Hours; Level of Learning: Introductory \nFee: \nNon 4-C Members: $10 \n4-C Members: Free

SUMMARY:Social Emotional Development & Positive Behavior Outcomes
DESCRIPTION:When it comes to behaviors\, it’s all about social emotional development. During this training\, we will reflect on the use of developmentally appropriate social and emotional techniques\, how they impact and reinforce positive attachment relationships\, and how they lead to change in behavior. Caregiving relationships will be shown to support emotional regulation and social skills by modeling and encouraging positive behaviors in young children. By using visuals\, group discussions\, and case studies\, you will be able to support meaningful social and emotional growth within your program. Through examining your own beliefs\, reflecting on various theoretical perspectives\, and considering the realities of child care programs\, we can share tools that support culturally relevant ways to implement social and emotional learning. \n**Must attend both sessions to receive credit** \nRegistration Deadline: October 8\, 2025 \nTrainer: Cheryl Joseph \nAudience: All Providers \n6.5 Training Hours; Level of Learning: Intermediate \nFree Training

SUMMARY:From Care to Connection: Strengthening Relationships in Family Child Care
DESCRIPTION:Family Child Care providers already bring a wealth of care\, commitment\, and skill to the children they serve. In this training\, we will build on that foundation by exploring the powerful connection between caregiving style and teaching style and how both influence the way we form meaningful relationships with children. Together\, we’ll reflect on how our personal experiences and environments shape the ways we respond to daily challenges and discover how awareness of these patterns can expand the tools we already use. \nTrainer: Andrea Cossey\, 4-C Infant Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant \nAudience: Family Child Care Providers \n2 Training Hours; Level of Learning: Introductory \nFee: \nNon 4-C Members: $10 \n4-C Members: Free

SUMMARY:How Trauma Impacts Young Children
DESCRIPTION:Children’s lives are directly impacted by exposure to traumatic events. By using a diversity\, equity\, inclusion\, and belonging (DEIB) lens\, we can consider how these traumas are felt unequally across the diverse communities that childcare providers serve. We will examine trauma and resilience\, screening tools\, look at the research on the impacts of trauma\, review a case study\, and consider the ongoing traumatic impacts of COVID. \nWe will consider the important roles that childcare providers play in recognizing the signs of traumatic exposure\, promoting infant mental health\, supporting young children and their families\, and creating caregiving environments that support resilience. Understanding the ways that individual’s family history\, cultural background\, language\, home environment\, community supports\, and heredity play in their development\, resilience\, and response to trauma will support providers in understanding the strengths of the children and families they serve. \nMust attend both sessions to receive credit \nTrainer: Cheryl Joseph\, Adjunct Professor\, Oakton Community College \nAudience: All Providers \n6.5 Training Hours; Level of Learning: Intermediate \nFee: Free Training
